Long Time No Blogging!

I've been super busy with the beginning of the school year and I have neglected my blog.  I hope to get back to sharing very soon.

Thanks for checking in.

It's Friday!

I love Fridays but for some reason they seem a lot more exciting when I am actually working.

Yesterday afternoon I hit up my local Michael's but I didn't find anything I felt like I just had to have so I left empty handed.  That Michael's happens to be located very close (same parking lot) as Target.  I felt the pull of the Target but actually managed to resist.

Here is a color word journal for your friends who are learning their color words.  There is a chance I posted this last year but really I don't feel like going back to see :)  If you have downloaded this before just pretend it is new to you :)  Share it with a friend!

Target Part 4

I visited the Target by my mother's house yesterday.  They were fully stocked and had a good selection but I didn't see anything I felt like I wanted/needed.  I'm sad to say I left empty handed.  While I was there I went to check on my 18 cent deal and guess what?!?  They were $2.50 each at that Target.  Wow!  Maybe it was just the Target down the street from my house that had that wonderful 18 cent special.

Next I visited Walmart.  They had an entire isle (really it was a half of an isle) of items geared to teachers.  Each item with 88 cents.  I must say that nothing really jumped out at me.  I only picked up two things.  I picked up one fancy pen and some spiral note pads.  The note pads came in packs of 4.  They have covers with dots, stripes, solid colors, etc.  I think I will make them part of my end of year gift.

Hopefully this will be my last Target related post for the summer.  Hmmm....I haven't been to the Dollar Store lately.  Not working during the summer gives me way too much time to shop!

Target Part 3

I went back to Target with the hopes that they had finished putting out the teaching supplies but that hope was dashed.  The had only filled about 50% of the shelves.  That is better than 20% but not as much progress as I had hoped.  I only pick up 2 items.  They are lunch bags but I think I will use them as part of a game.  I'm not sure exactly what kind of a game but I know I'll figure something out.

I have to admit, that I went back again this afternoon...but only because I needed something.  Anyhow, I picked up another 2 bags of the mini frog erasers while I was there.  I was in the check out behind a lady who had picked these up to purchase.

When the guy scanned them they didn't scan.  They lady said, "They are suppose to be 18 cents each."  I said, "Did you just say those are suppose to be 18 cents each?"  Yes, I had heard her correctly.  They sent someone to check the price and guess what!?  She was right!  I knew right then I should go back and pick some up.  Against my better judgement I didn't go back.  That was until a few hours later I just happened to be driving past Target and couldn't resist.  I picked them up.  I got them for 18 cents each.  I really don't need them but who could pass that deal up?  I am sure I will find something to use the for.

I am headed to visit my mother this morning so I will be stopping by to check out her Target and probably her Walmart while I am up there.

Happy shopping!

Target: Part 2

Needless to say after returning to Target around 2:00 yesterday afternoon I found myself to be very disappointed.  There were no longer 3 people working on the Dollar Spot transition.  It was down to one person working on putting things out.  I would estimate that only 20% of the shelves were filled.  I did find a few things to pick up.  Here they are:
They have small (table top) puzzles.  I picked up one of each but I am thinking about picking up at least one more of each today.

I picked up 2 of the Up Close Critters book and one of the Animal of Australia book.  They have nice pictures.

I resisted going back last night before they closed so I am going first thing.  They open in 15 minutes.  Lucky for me I live about a mile away from this Target!  Wish me luck!

Rain and Target

I live in the DC area and we have had temperatures over 95 degrees for 11 consecutive days.  The last four days it has been 100+.  On Saturday it felt like it was 107 out.  This morning I woke up to rain and it was only 73 degree.  It have never been o happy to see rain in my entire life.  It is suppose to go up to the mid 80s but anything is better than 100 degrees!

I headed out in the rain this morning and hit two local Target Dollar Spots.  At the first Target here is what I picked up.
This is everything I picked up.

Here is a close up of the frog erasers.  They will be great for sorting and making patterns.

I'm will also use these star and heart erasers for sorting and patterning.

Name tags for the first week of school.

I'm not really sure why I picked this up but I am sure I will find a use for it :)

I picked up some of these double sided dry erase boards last year.  I loved them so much I picked up more to use this year.  If I remember correctly they were $2.50 each 4 pack last year.  They were only $1 this year.

At the second Target Dollar Spot I found nothing....ok, I find 3 people working on removing everything and starting to open the boxes of "teacher" stuff!  I am so excited but it would have been too creepy if I stood there while they worked so I headed home to write this post..  I will give them a few should only take a few hours right?  I will head back this afternoon and hope I hit the jackpot.

Have a great week!

Summer Vacation!

I've been out of school for a week now.  I have been trying to catch up household chores, doctors appointments and all of the other things that pushed to the side during the school year.  On top of that I have been working on several online classes which I hope to have finished in the next week.

Here is a sight word bingo I created a few years ago and used at the end of the school year as a review.

Only 10 1/2 Teaching Days Left

Yes, I am keeping track of the number of teaching days left.  I can't help it.  I can't wait for summer vacation to begin.  I'm not working this summer so I will tons for time to post new activities I created and didn't have time to post.  I will also have time to make new things.

Here is write around the room addition activity I created.  Print, laminate and cut the flower cards.  Tape the flower cards up around the room.  Students take the recording sheet and go around the room to locate the flower card with the letters to create the equation that they will then solve.  I hope this makes sense.

The end of the school year is almost here for me, only 23 1/2 school days left in my school year.  Although I am super excited I can't help but think about the beginning of the next school year.  I am busy getting things together and looking for new, fun thing to start my year off doing.

Here is a beginning of the year write the room I created.  I hope you can use it too!

Robot Scramble

I found some super cute plastic robots (left over from Easter) at Walmart for $1.  I am slightly obsessed with word scrambles if you can't tell.  I also picked up a sea creature set and a spring animals set.  I will post these word scrambles as soon as I finish them :)

Money, Money, Money

Although my school system doesn't have us teaching money until the last 3 weeks of the school year I get a bit of a jump start. We watch this video 3 or 4 times a weeks at the beginning of math.

More Than, Less Than and Equal to 10

Our school system's curriculum has us reviewing more than, less than and equal to 5 and 10 before we begin addition.  I whipped this up real quick to put in the pocket chart center.

More "easter eggs"

I was wonder through Walmart the other morning when I came across these cute little cupcakes with candy inside. They were so cute I just had to pick them up.  I removed the candy (but was good and didn't eat it).  I created this activity to go along with the cupcakes.  The students choose a cupcake.  Inside are letters cut apart that they then unscramble to make a sight word we have been learning.  If my sight word don't match your needs just make up your own letter titles.  Notice that I make each word a different color so that if a letter drops it is easy to figure out where it needs to put back.  I hope you can use it.

I love "easter eggs"!

I love the variety of eater eggs that I can find in the stores this time of year.  The boys in my class LOVE soccer.  I picked these soccer ball eggs up at Walmart.  I cut up words (each words is a different color to help with getting them back to the right ball if one of the letters falls on the floor) and put one in each soccer ball.  I created a matching paper where the students record the words.

SPRING is finally here!

Tomorrow is my last day with the kids before spring break!  I can't tell you how excited I am right now.  We don't have to go back to school until April 10th.  I think the kids need the break as much as I do.

This is a write around the room I created to use when we return from break.  I hope you find it useful!

Almost Spring Break!

I haven't had a lot of time to blog lately although I have been blogstalking (is that a real word?) on a fairly regular basis.  When I create something new I always think to myself, "I should share this."  My intentions are always good but finding time to follow through is another story.  My spring break begins this Friday.  I hope to devote more time to sharing over break.  Until then, here is a little something.

Valentine's Double Ten-frame

This is similar to the activity I shared yesterday.  This time the students choose a number and then color the matching double ten-frame on the recording sheet.

It's been a long time....

I feel bad I haven't posted anything new lately.  I hope this makes up for it just a little bit.

Place the colored sight word hearts in a container.  I will be using a tin with hearts on it that I picked up in the dollar section at Target.  Students pull a heart, read the sight words, find the word and color it.
