I Survived!

I survived my in service week that included an earthquake and the fire alarm going of during a rainstorm!  Last night was our open house/back to school night.  I like that we get it done at once.  My students begin school on Monday assuming we don't loose electricity due to "Irene".

To celebrate here are two books I created a few year ago.  I hope you can use them.

Creating Sets

Here is a simple math center for creating sets using "Do A Dots" or bingo markers.  You will need to prepare index cards with numbers written on the left hand side.

There was standing in the back of my classroom trying to decide what to do next when I heard something on the roof...or so I thought. There is a classroom above the front two thirds of my room but the back 1/3 is covered by a slanted roof. I seriously thought there was someone running across the roof and was heading to the backdoor to go outside to see who was running across the top of my roof. Then I realized it was way too loud and the ground began to shake. I live in a county in Maryland just outside of Washington,D.C. An earthquake was not the first thing that came to mind.

This is my 11th year at my school. The first year I taught at my school 9/11 happened. The next October we had the DC sniper. Now they are talking after shocks here as well as hurricane Irene heading toward us. All I have to say that this is not a good start to my school year.

My summer has officially come to an end. Tomorrow the teachers in my county return to work and our news students will join us on August 29th.  On the positive side only 10 more months until next summer :)

Here is a little book to emphasis the word "is" as well as triangles.

Shape Monster

Have you heard of the Shape Monster?  Here is a book I made a few years ago but I can't remember where I got the idea.  If you know where I found the idea please let me know so I can give proper credit.

More, Less and Equal

I believe these activities are self explanatory.  I write numbers on index cards and put them in a basket for students to choose.  You will most likely need to model these activities.

Beautiful Weather

I have been away enjoying the beautiful weather camping the past few days.  That got me to thinking about our weather graph (see download below).  We begin the year talking about the weather and seasons in science.  My weather helper adds one link to the weather graph each day.  I wish I had a picture but I don't yet.  Teachers don't go back to school for another 9 days and students a week after that.  Anyhow, there are circles under each type of weather listed.  I put them there as a reminder to you that you will need to punch a hole under each type of weather so that students can add a link each day.

Treasure Chest---The saga continues

I went back to Michael's last night and A.C. Moore this morning looking for gems or jewels to write either letters or words on for my treasure chest without any luck.  At least I didn't find anything I was willing to pay for.  Michael' had some large plastic "diamonds" but they were $2.99 each!  No way!  At A.C. Moore I found this bag of blue plastic jewels.  They were $2.99 and I used a 50% off coupon.  Although they are not big enough to write anything on I was thinking that they could be "filler" in the chest.

I found some free jewel graphics and put my word wall words on them.  I will print, laminate, cut them and mix them in with the jewels I picked up.  Of course I will be decorating the chest and will post pictures when I am done.

I would still love to hear any other ideas for my treasure chests.

Treasure Boxes

I picked up 2 decorate your own jewelry boxes from Michael's this morning for 99 cents each.  They were on clearance.  I want to make some type of treasure themed game with them.  Any suggestions?
